Robert's dedication to his community is evident in his actions and leadership roles. He has served as the pastor of Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church since 2009, where he has stood shoulder to shoulder with community members, faith leaders, and labor coalitions to seek justice for students, workers, and families.

As the pastor of Mt. Carmel missionary Baptist Church and a leader on the Local School Council at Dunbar High School, Pastor Jones has consistently stood up for working-class families and their right to quality education. In 2015, Pastor Jones went on a 34 day hunger strike to save Dyett high school from being closed.

With a loving family that includes his wife Creola of 23 years, four children, 13 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren, his roots in community and family values run deep. For the past 15 years, Rev. Jones has led the Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church with unwavering dedication, embodying the spirit of service and leadership.


His journey in the Bronzeville Community over the last 13 years is marked by a steadfast commitment to education and justice. As a member of the Local School Council at Dunbar High School, Rev. Jones has not only voiced his opposition but has also taken bold actions against the unjust school closures under the Rahm Administration. His remarkable 34-day hunger strike played a pivotal role in the reopening of Dyett High School, setting a historic precedent for community activism in education.
Rev. Jones' leadership extends beyond the pulpit and into the streets, where he has been a tireless advocate for the first elected public School Board in Chicago. His work with the Sustainable Public Schools model and close collaboration with Drake School underscores his vision for equitable and accessible education for all. His advocacy for Rent Control Legislation, affordable housing, and the rights of workers during the pandemic showcases his holistic approach to community welfare.


As a member of the Chicago Health Equity Coalition (CHEC), Rev. Jones was instrumental in the campaign to prevent the closure of Mercy Hospital, ensuring continued service to the Bronzeville and South Side communities. His roles as Faith Co-Chair of Chicago Jobs with Justice and Co-Chair of the Chicago Area Workers Rights Board highlight his commitment to workers rights and social justice. Furthermore, as General Secretary of the Lugenia Burns Hope Center and a member of Black Leaders Building Together (BLB2), Rev. Jones continues to advocate for justice, equity, and opportunity in education, health, and employment.


Rev. Jones' candidacy for the Chicago School Board is a testament to a lifetime of fighting on the front lines for justice, equity, and the betterment of his community. His track record of standing up for key issues and his unwavering commitment to the people of Chicago make him an exemplary candidate, poised to bring about transformative change in the city's educational landscape.
